The vision of the Canadian Biosphere Reserves Association (CBRA) is to be a leader in creating vibrant, healthy, sustainable communities across Canada while conserving Canada’s natural and cultural heritage. Seen as demonstration areas and interactive learning sites for dynamic projects of all kinds, biosphere reserves export successful results, processes, experiences and concepts throughout Canada and to the rest of the world. CBRA facilitates the networking and outreach process, empowering the biosphere reserves to most effectively share resources and best practices.

CBRA’s mission is to support Canadian biosphere reserves in the achievement of their mandates and demonstrates their collective value nationally and internationally. We serve as a strong voice for, and champion of, the biosphere reserves in our network. At a Canada-wide level, CBRA brings shared knowledge to federal and provincial government policy shapers who can help promote environmental stewardship, sustainable livelihoods and learning. By connecting with UNESCO’s network of biosphere reserves in over 109 countries, CBRA acquires international perspectives, knowledge and capability which can then be transferred to Canadian reserves. Through CBRA, Canadian biosphere reserves can communicate and collaborate on shared projects, and exchange local expertise both amongst themselves, with related organizations and with biosphere reserves around the world.
